Cupcake Turndown Service at Anthony's Bar

Last night, a group of friends and I went to Anthony's Bar. While the name makes it sound like a typical hamburger joint, it's actually an upscale white napkin placed on lap by server restaurant. One of their dessert options was a carrot cake cupcake. Not only was the cupcake amazingly good, but it's presentation was unique and impressive.

After giving each patron his or her cupcake, our server performed the table side service of using a small knife to separate the wrapper from the cake. While this was just as unnecessary as turning down sheets in a fancy hotel, it made the cupcake experience all the more luxurious.

Sometimes it's nice to go upscale. People ate their cupcakes formally with fork and knife. Other times, it's nice to pick the cupcake wrapper up, shove it in my mouth to suck off the extra cake, and spit it out.

Note to the bride and groom: Cupcake turndown is not a service I plan to provide at the wedding.

Full disclosure: I did not actually order the cupcake at Anthony's. I just mooched off of my friend. I actually ordered the soup and sandwich dessert (a hot chocolate soup with a homemade ice cream sandwich). It was so creative. I couldn't resist!

Cupcakes in the St. Louis Post Dispatch

Today's "Let's Eat" section of the St. Louis Post Dispatch featured cupcakes (if it was something else, you wouldn't be hearing about it from me).

The article talked about our two new cupcake shops, Jilly's and the Cupcakery. The physical paper, which I still get delivered to my door each morning (sorry trees), had a fabulous picture of the cupcakes at Jilly's. I'm not sure why the online article only shows a picture of Sprinkles in Beverly Hills. That's a shame. It's still worth a read though.

New Cupcake Bar in St. Louis

While heading to one of our favorite St. Louis restaurants, House of India, my friends and I noticed that there was a new cupcake bar opening next door! It's going to be called Jilly's Cupcake Bar.

As we peered through the window and started talking about it, Jilly (she seemed to prefer being called Jill) invited us in to take a peek at what was to come. She then went on to describe all the amazing creations that we could expect when they opened.

I told her about the cupcake project and she promised that she would invite me to the grand opening party. I'll be sure to report back on how that goes.

Sounds like most of her cupcakes are going to be stuffed with some kind of filling. Regular readers (well, those who read the previous post) will know that I am not a big fan of large globs of icing, so I'll have to bring my husband along to the opening party to help me finish them off while I focus on the sure to be delicious cakes.

Jill also mentioned that if I bring her some of my creations to try she might name a cupcake after me. That sounds like a challenge to me. Perhaps I'll wait till the project winners are decided and she can have Stef's Cupcake Project Grand Champion Cupcake. That'd be awesome! I could go eat them there if I got burnt out on making them.
