Mixing Bowl Cover Giveaway

Print Friendly and PDF

Often, I'm in the middle of frosting cupcakes when something comes up - forcing me to stop (e.g. my son woke up from his nap and needs to walk down the block to see the train NOW or the world will end).  I decide to cover the bowl to protect the frosting from uninvited house guests (I'm not talking about hungry neighbors with spoons, but rather evil flies that let themselves in during the one second that our door is open). At this moment, I always wonder how to best cover the mixing bowl.  Here were my options as I saw them pre-amazing-mixing-bowl-cover:

  1. Foil.  Flaw: Foil doesn't come in circles and I end up piecing together several foil fragments and worrying about the gap that always ends up forming between them.
  2. Cling wrap.  Flaw: This has the same non-circle problem, with the addition of the not sticking to the bowl problem.
  3. Kitchen towel.  Flaw: The kitchen towels are dirty because I've been baking.  Plus, they don't provide a tight fit.

Needless to say, when I heard about the mixing bowl covers available from Anyplace on Etsy, I did a happy dance!  They are so simple and so practical that I can't understand why no one thought of them before!  Plus, they are adorable!  Check out the Etsy shop to see all of the current styles.  I'll use my sample ones (thanks, Anyplace!) all of the time - not only for cupcake batter and frosting covering emergencies, but for bread dough and yeasted cake rising.

The covers fit all models of KitchenAid, Breville, and Cuisinart (and similar mixers) and they are made from a cotton blend that is food safe and machine washable.  In the photo above, you can see one on my KitchenAid bowl (in the front) and one on my Breville bowl (in the back).

    1. Very cool giveaway! I currently use a kitchen towel to cover when baking bread, but seems like this would be much more sanitary. :)

    2. Depending on what I am covering.... I use either parchment paper or foil

      ReplyDelete
    3. A kitchen towel, moist paper towel are my current covers, but I'm lucky if I get back to the bowl without one side collapsing into the bowl! A cover that stayed put would be heaven, not to mention look great too!

    4. those are adorable. i usually use the press and seal stuff

    5. Oh these are much prettier and more practical than using my tea towel or a plate to cover. jennadsmith@hotmail.com

    6. Depending on what I am covering I usually just use something high tech like a baking pan because usually my kitchen towels end up dirty and usually I have a pan sitting nearby for baking. (Hey at least it keeps the fly's out right:o)

      ReplyDelete
    7. I use plastic wrap. If I'm putting it on something I know regular plastic wrap won't stick to, I use Glad Press n Seal.

      ReplyDelete
    8. Those are so cute! I usually use a kitchen towel or plastic wrap, but the plastic wrap only ever sticks to itself and my towels are generally pretty messy from baking to...

    9. I currently use either foil or plastic wrap. Neither works well enough. These mixing bowl covers would make life so much easier (more colorful!) and would make covering the bowl so much quicker!

      ReplyDelete
    10. I currently use a moistened kitchen towel, which I find absolutely disgusting, as I never know what my husband or kids would have used it for at some prior point. This, with a dedicated purpose, wouldn't have been used to clean up cat barf at any point prior!
      Thanks!

    11. I always use a kitchen towel. It never fails when I come back to what I'm working on the kitchen towel has fallen into the bowl and I have red lint on/in my frosting or dough! The bowl cover would completely get rid of that problem! No more red fuzz in my cream cheese frosting! YAY!

I currently use foil and on a rare occassion a clean towel. I don't like either. Sometimes I will also use a cookie sheet to cover certain bowls.

    13. These are adorable! I have been using either a kitchen towel or a cookie sheet to cover my bowls, but the towels seem to droop into the bowl, and the cookie sheets are a pain to get out from under all the other baking supplies when I'm in a hurry.

    14. I currently use my Kitchen Aid Bowl Cover to tightly cover the bowl. But when I want it to breathe, I use a kitchen towel (I have about two dozen in a drawer so there are always clean ones handy). I find this works pretty much most of the time, but when things are chaotic, I find it difficult to keep track of which towel is for wiping my hands and which is for covering the bowl... so a dedicated breathable cover would be awesome!

    15. I currently use a dish rag as well. Mine are far from hygienic too- :(. They have sticky toddler prints and cake bits on them. E-mail mollie.mary.garnes@gmail.com

    16. Love the covers! If it is an emergency quick cover-up, then I will use a clean dish towel. But if I have a bit more time, I'll grab a dinner plate. The dinner plate works, but it's awkward and eventually takes up counter space. I would love a bowl cover!

      ReplyDelete
    17. I go the plastic wrap route too...which generally fails miserably! It just ends up sticking to itself, not the bowl. At least this would stay in place!

      ReplyDelete
    18. I usually use plastic wrap or a plate. Works OK, but one of these covers would work much better :)

    19. These are super cute! Much more chique than the plastic shower cap variaties. For bread, I use a towel (a clean one), and for general coverage I use plastic wrap. Econo-size, restaurant type. You can find me on blogger or via the web site: www.bakeitwithbooze.blogspot.com

      Thanks!

      P.S. Made your pina colada cc's today-FAB! :)

    20. Currently, I'm using anything that comes to hand, Kitchen Foil, Kitchen Paper, sometimes even a plate.

The Covers would be sooo much more sanitary than any of those prion, and prettier too!

    21. I use the Press and Seal stuff. It sticks but you can only use it once. This sounds so much better. Not to mention it is a heck of a lot prettier.

    26. I usually use a clean, damp dishtowel......but I end up going through 3-4 towels per baking session! These would be much easier since I would (try) not to wipe my messy hands on them!

    27. I use plastic wrap or foil or those cool airtight lids with the stretchy plastic in the center. These covers would be great for bread dough or something you can put on and off in a hurry.

    28. Omg these covers are to die for! It depends on what I'm using my mixer for whether I use foil or plastic wrap. Plastic wrap falls off and foil doesn't stick appropriately. rachel(dot)metts(at)gmail(dot)com

    29. Sometimes I use foil and tear off the extra at the ends to make a foil ball for the cat. It works great for the cat not so much for the bowl.

    38. these are soo cute! I currently use plastic wrap, but hate that it doesn't stick to all my bowls, and sometimes I use foil, which always tear so I have to get a new piece, a waste of movey that's for sure. 40. These are so cute! And perfect for keeping out those crazy little gnats (fruit flies?) that are always sneaking into bowls this time of year! I normally use a towel too but it just doesn't do the job.
When I was young and learning to cook, my mom had some similar bowl covers that were sturdy plastic with elastic edges. I have also seen some thin plastic disposable ones that don't last.

    41. I usually use either a towel, which are also often dirty and sometimes fall in, or plastic wrap. if its the latter then i transfer to the smallest bowl possible so i don't have to use as much wrap (and am hopefully able to cover the top with just one piece), but am always frustrated at how it doesn't stay put. my grandma uses shower caps, though!

    45. Most of my mixing bowls are too wide for cling wrap, so I have to use two staggered pieces of it, and that's a waste and a mess. These bowl covers look perfect.

      ReplyDelete
    46. I use what ever is around...

Mix covers are not only functional, they are fashionable. Isn't that what every baker whether professional or novice wants to have in their kitchen artillery? I know I want one!

    47. I currently use a kitchen towel, but the cover will be so much better because it is tight around the side and it is much cuter than my towels :). volley2u@aol.com

      ReplyDelete
    48. Generally, I use plastic wrap, but like others, it tends to stick to itself rather than the bowl. A towel works well too, but these covers would be wonderful! Oooo...I hope I win! :)

      ReplyDelete
    49. For covering bread while it rises, I use a towel, but that scares me because...I usually heat my oven up to the lowest temp, turn it off, and then put the covered bowl in the oven...therefore, I get nervous and don't want the towel to touch the rack for fear of fire. These covers would definitely take away that fear. For other things, I use plastic wrap which does not stick (as everybody knows). Again, these covers would easily solve that problem. Thanks for the great blog and ideas! debbie.tanner@att.net

      ReplyDelete
    50. Well, those are just nifty!!! I usually use a towel or whatever's to hand... if I remember to cover the bowl at all. Mmmmm, crunchy icing. Sigh.

      ReplyDelete
    51. I currently use one of my ceramic dinner plates because it is round, and it covers my bowl perfectly. I think a mixing bowl cover would be perfect as it would not break like my plates

    52. I love this. Not only much more aesthetically pleasing, but it won't droop like a towel, or be so irritating to get in place as foil or plastic wrap. I usually use plastic wrap (I like it clear so I can see what's in it) but it's such a pain!

    58. For rising bread, I usually use the plastic bags from the produce section. They are pretty light and can easily fit a bowl. However, then you have to worry if something on the fruit is still in the bag, and now on the bread. These bowl covers would be more sanitary, easy to use, and just plain cute!

      ReplyDelete
    59. I love this idea! I don't have a go-to cover-up yet! It's a toss-up between kitchen towel, plate, or going through the hassle of putting it in a tupperware and doing a whole bunch of dishes. I would love this!

    115. I currently use a clean tea towel...which is sometimes a problem if it's nearing time to do laundry! It doesn't always stay in place too well either, unfortunately.

    116. What a great idea! I currently use the plastic wrap that sticks, but this is much more economical!

      ReplyDelete
    117. This is such a great idea! I usually end up using a wet kitchen towel for my bowls, but these are so much cuter! (And effective, I'm sure.)

    118. I use foil but hate it! this is a great idea!!

    119. I haven't seen these before - very neat! I use plastic wrap or foil to cover bowls generally, but I use a dampened kitchen towel or waxed paper to cover the bowl while letting yeast doughs rise. These bowl covers would be more sanitary and also wouldn't use up disposable products. Great giveaway, thanks!

    120. I typically go with the whole tinfoil- spoon hanging out of the bowl approach. It doesn't work so well, but I never can find the cover that came with the Kitchen Aid...

...So I'd love to have something more substantial and tightly fitting :D

    121. I have one Kitchenaid that was given to us as a wedding present 35 years ago, one that was my mother in laws that is 45 yrs old ( both in the original "only" white) and a new one in red...the new one is the prettiest but the old ones are my workhorses and still are the best ones around! I do have a plate that fits perfectly...if it is clean and not sitting in the dishwasher :) Would love the covers from Etsy, my daughter's favorite site to shop on <3

    125. I use a damp kitchen towel with a plate on top of that to cover my mixing bowl - this mixing bowl cover would be better in SOOOOO many ways. No worry of tipping the plate off accidentally.

    134. I am in the kitchen towel camp and I can't stand it. My hubby has a tendency to wipe up meat-juice spills with our towels and then hang them back up like they still clean. Unless I take it straight of the dryer I never know if they are covered in E.coli or not. Spew.
I'm pretty sure he won't try to clean up chicken bits with a cute little bowl cover.

    135. We usually use a kitchen towel as well, and, as you noted, they are always dirty! I don't like to use cling wrap or foil because it seems wasteful. These reusable covers would be perfect and eco-friendly! harmonybear10@gmail.com

    136. Those are the greatest things EVER. I currently use a damp dishtowel if I have to cover a frosting bowl, but it's SUCH a pain. As you mentioned, they're not always clean and can be a huge pain, especially if it's the only one you have out and you have to wet it to keep the frosting from drying out and I could go on about this for DAYS. Those bowl covers are ingenius. Seriously.

    145. I usually go the "dirty" dish towel route. If I have it on hand, I will you Cling Wrap. Being sticky itself, it works out pretty well. However, it is no where near as cute as the mixing bowl cover you are giving away!! I love that it can be used for proofing dough as well!

    146. I usually go the plastic wrap route, although sometimes I use a clean plate.

    148. I usually use plastic wrap to cover whatever I'm working on, but I don't cover the bowl, I usually put it directly over whatever it is that's inside (be it dough, batter, or custard!) Of course, that gets a bit messy when its something less firm like muffin batter, and the baking bowl cover could also be used to cover rising dough! Plus, they are far more attractive than plastic wrap.

I used to have a rubber band that I used with a clean kitchen towel to cover bowls. Then I lost the rubber band (I have a feeling the bf threw it away, although he won't admit it). Now I use foil. And struggle with it. And curse myself for not making a new loop of rubber band in time.

The mixing bowl cover seems so simple, and fast, and hassle free! Not to mention pretty :)

I frantically looked around trying to find something to cover my bowl while needing to get my puppy outside FAST. My only solution was to stick the bowl in the refrigerated. I knew I wouldn't be gone too long, but it definitely wasn't the ideal solution. This cover would have been so much better to just grab and take care of the situation instead of having to figure out what on earth I was going to do with the frosting.
